Eighteen Letters from a father to his daughter, by Joe Garrett
Joe Garrett grew up in Berkeley, California, with his sister and two brothers. Their parents had been members of the Communist Party in New York before moving to California to start a family and a new life under a new name.

The author attended Berkeley public schools until being sent to a trade school in San Francisco. He subsequently went to Dartmouth College and UC Berkeley, where he earned an MBA. He went into banking and eventually served as president of commercial banks in San Francisco and Oakland.

Although he has authored over fifty articles on banking and finance, this is his first book on an unrelated subject.
